Michael Rowland has served multiple terms as a Commissioner for the Sebastian Inlet District, starting with his election in 1992 by voters within the district’s boundaries for a four-year term to fill Seat 3, Brevard County.  In 2004, Commissioner Rowland was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to fill a seat that was vacated and served for approximately 6 months to finish out the specified term.  He opted to run for election again in 2012, 2016 and 2020 and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer.  This is Commissioner Rowland's fourth consecutive term.

Michael is an avid sport fisherman, scuba diver and captain, with a 100-ton U.S. Coast Guard Masters License.  He is a member of the Florida Sport Fishing Association (FSFA) and the Ft. Pierce Fishing Club.  A native Floridian, Michael has lived on the shores of the Indian River for nearly 40 years and is deeply committed to preserving our natural resources.

Michael is a past member of the Marine Advisory Council for Brevard County and the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council.  He studied economics at Florida Eastern College, is a Certified Financial Planner and currently works at Raymond James.

Michael has been involved with numerous scientific research programs over the years to study seagrasses and artificial offshore reef systems. He is focused on doing all he can to help protect our marine environment for his daughters and future generations to enjoy.
